On August 16, 2012, John presented “Hotel Contracts 101 for the Meeting Professional” to the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society of Government Meeting Professionals. The presentation acknowledged the background and ground rules of these contracts, along with how they may be interpreted by arbitrators or courts should a dispute arise. Special considerations in negotiating these contracts were also addressed. Toward the end of the presentation, John lead an interactive discussion showcasing the differing viewpoints of the suppliers and planners, providing internal viewpoints of each side.
The Society of Government Meeting Professionals aims to improve the quality, and promote cost-effectiveness, of government meetings by providing education, resources and networking opportunities for its members. There are 32 local chapters across the country.
A member of the firm’s Litigation Group, John’s practice includes a wide variety of litigation matters involving claims of strict product liability, negligence, breach of contract, breach of warranty, violations of consumer protection statutes, intentional interference with contractual relations, violations of restrictive covenants, insurance coverage issues and professional negligence/legal malpractice, amongst others. He has tried cases in various state trial courts in Pennsylvania and participated on trial teams in the Federal District Courts in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
